ASSOCIATE's DEGREES

An associate degree is a two-year degree (60 SCH - Semester Credit Hours). In terms of education, an associate degree falls between a high school diploma and a bachelor's degree. Students are required to complete about 40 college classes to earn a bachelor's degree (120 SCH)

Laurea Associata
(Associate's degree)

Gli studenti possono scegliere fra differenti tipologie di Associate's degree, a seconda dei loro obiettivi.  Gli Associate's degree di solito sono composti da 60 crediti.

General education requirements change, depending the type of Associate degree. For an Associate in Occupational Science (AOS) students must complete a minimum of 9 credits in General education. AOS and the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree prepares graduates to enter a career immediately after graduation and are considered terminal degrees. Students enrolled in AOS or AAS can enter a Bachelor of Arts degree if they integrate and complete 36 credits in general education.

To an Associate in Science (AS or ASc), students are required to complete a minimum standard of 15 credits in General education and 45 credits in core curriculum and electives. An AS is a professional degree (can be also an academic degree in the meantime), an ASc has a more academic goal.

Students with an High School Diploma or equivalent, can enroll in any Associate degree

Students without the High School Diploma or equivalent can enroll in GEA High School with a dual enrolling program (High School + Associate degree program). They must complete their High School Diploma before to be awarded with the Associate degree.

DURATION: 60 credits (about 2 years)

Students with college or university course curriculum can transfer their credits to finish before (about 1 year)

Students with a 5-year secondary school diploma can transfer their credit to finish before (about 1 year and 1/2)

Students with work experience, can transfer their work credits

Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees do not officially include a major or minor course of study; nevertheless, students do complete a 24 credit program of study option for either an A.A. or A.S. degree. Just to simplify, you will find here these 24 credits under the name MAJOR/MINOR.

Remember: if you don't enroll in a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree program, these 24 credits will be only considered as your core curriculum, part of your Associate's degree. After your Associate's degree, if you are enrolled or you will enroll in a bachelor's degree, we will consider your study path according to a major or a minor.

Majors cannot be less than 30 credit hours. To earn a major, one typically has to complete 12 specialized classes, with most earning them three credit hours. This sums up to 36 credit hours. Students are required to declare a major when they enroll in a bachelor's degree. A major is simply the “major area of focus” for your studies. In a Bachelor's Degree, the Major is the main focus of your studies and the Minor is a secondary area of specialization.

Minors are recognized concentration of study in a subject area outside of the major, consisting of at least 15 credits (up to 18 credits) of appropriate course work. A minor provides a traditional way to recognize that a student has completed a significant body of work outside the major. Compared to a major, a minor is a lot less intensive, and only requires 4–6 courses to complete. Sometimes the minor is listed on the same line of your degree and major by simply separating your major and minor with a comma. Or your minor is listed on its own separate line underneath the line with your degree and major. To do a minor when you are enrolled in a bachelor is at your completely choice.
