MISSION, VISION & CORE VALUES

GEA University of San Marco

GEA University of San Marco is a religious institution committed to equipping students for faithful service in the church, community, and marketplace. Founded on Christ-centered and academic excellence, GEA offers degree programs that integrate rigorous scholarship with spiritual formation.

Mission Statement

GEA University of San Marco is committed equipping students through Christ-centered, academically rigorous, and spiritually formative education. Our mission is to prepare leaders who will serve faithfully in the Church and society—across denominations and cultures—through teaching, scholarship, and holistic ministry.

Inspired by the spirit of the clerici vagantes (or clerici vagi - wandering clerics)—itinerant scholars of medieval Christendom who crossed borders to pursue and share wisdom—we embrace our role as a global theological institution. Nowadays, in the digital age, eLearning makes it possible to follow in their footsteps virtually, enabling students to access world-class education, cross intellectual and spiritual frontiers, and contribute to the global conversation from wherever they are.

We are committed to advancing knowledge, forming students who can think critically, speak truthfully and act compassionately in an interconnected world.

We are engaged to fostering dialogue, understanding, collaboration and cooperation across ecumenical and interreligious boundaries, empowering students to be ambassadors of truth, compassion, and reconciliation in a diverse and globalized world.

Vision Statement

GEA University of San Marco envisions a world where Christian education transcends borders—geographic, doctrinal, and technological—empowering a new generation of global disciples, scholars, and peacemakers.

We strive to become a premier center for theological learning that:

  • Honors the authority of Scripture while welcoming ecumenical and interfaith dialogue.
  • Integrates classical Christian tradition with contemporary global issues.
  • Uses digital platforms to replicate the bold, borderless spirit of the clerici vagantes, offering access to high-level academic engagement from anywhere in the world.
  • Equips students not only for ministry, but for cultural leadership, public service, health, education, and the arts—guided by faith, compassion, and wisdom.

Our vision is to see graduates who are not only theologically grounded but also globally connected, theologically literate, and vocationally prepared to serve with excellence in every corner of society.

Values Statement

As a Christ-centered institution, we are guided by the following core values:

  • Christlikeness
We pursue excellence in character and conduct, modeled after the life and teachings of Jesus. We seek to embody the love, humility, and holiness of Jesus Christ in our teaching, relationships, and leadership.
  • Academic Integrity
We commit to scholarly rigor, intellectual honesty, and the pursuit of truth through research and reflection.
  • Ecumenical Unity
We promote unity in the body of Christ by encouraging respectful engagement across Christian traditions and practices. We seek unity among Christian traditions, celebrating shared faith while respecting doctrinal diversity.
  • Interreligious Engagement
We promote respectful dialogue with other world religions, fostering understanding, peace, and mutual enrichment. We engage other world religions not in confrontation but in dialogue, cultivating mutual understanding and peace.
  • Global Mission
Once there were the wandering clerics (clerici vagantes) who traveled on foot from university to university, from one monastery to another. Today’s students—through modern eLearning—can access the wisdom of the world without borders. We train leaders to go forth with both mobility and mission. We prepare students to engage the world with courage and compassion, serving the spiritual and physical needs of humanity. Like the clerici vagantes who traversed nations in pursuit of truth, knowledge and service, we prepare our students to bring the gospel and holistic care to the ends of the earth. We train leaders to go forth with both mobility and mission.
  • Transformational Education
We believe education should form the whole person—spiritually, intellectually, and practically—for faithful service.  We aim to shape students intellectually, spiritually, and missionally—empowering them to lead lives of faithful impact.

Online and Distance Learning

Degree programs are offered in flexible online formats to accommodate working adults and international students and to adhere to the mission of educating our students with the vast digital knowledge as wandering clerics.
